Welcome back! This week Grace and Alvina talk about the term "imposter syndrome" and whether it should still be used, they talk about their favorite and least favorite narrative types, and how they feel about the world opening up again and how to interact with other people again.
How have you been?
Alvina was celebrating Easter with Stephen’s family and is getting ready for an upcoming vacation to Georgia. She’s also working on her family reunion plans this summer out west. She’s been busy with adult homework!
Unfortunately, Grace’s family lost another chicken on Easter Sunday. Hazel went to door-to-door in the neighborhood as the Easter Bunny. Grace has been busy planning her table settings for guests at the ALA awards!

Topic #1: The History of Imposter Syndrome
Should we continue to use this term? Based on a tweet Alvina saw recently, they discuss the history and conflicts of using the term. Tweet from Juana Hollingsworth:
“Today, April 13,2022 I am no longer using the term “imposter syndrome”. Last night Dr. @atachine informed me this concept was developed by two white women to explain why minoritized folks feel like outsiders or face self-doubt.”
Topic #2: Favorite and Least Favorite Narratives:
Grace dislikes: animals dying, heavy topics, YA in general, no apocalyptic stories. She loves fables, fantasy, magic, folktales and things with a lesson at the end. Alvina loves sad and darker stories about grief but she also loves talking animal stories. Alvina dislikes bathroom humor and time travel.
Grace and Alvina talk about books they read while they were grieving their husband’s deaths.
Topic #3: How to Return to Life and Social Interactions
Grace andAlvina talk about the return to being somewhat “normal” again. Will socializing come back to us?! What to wear returning back to the office? Hug or no hugs?
