How have you been?

Alvina has friends visiting from California and learns about the Earthquake in Taiwan. Grace realizes what a slump she was in during the hardest part of writing her novel. Writing can really effect her mood. Grace dyed eggs in a new way with a teaspoon of oil! Hazel had an Easter egg hunt with her book club. Grace pranked Hazel with an April Fool’s Day joke!

Acquisitions!

In episode #220, the book friends talked about agenting with Rebecca Sherman. The conversation about the publishing process continues today with the topic of acquisitions. Alvina explains query letters, weekly acquisition meetings, weekly editorial meetings, The Oxherd Boy book, and mentions what catches her eye.

Once the manuscripts get passed the editorial meetings, they go onto the acquisitions meeting. All of the directors are present for these meetings. 8 different people talk for each project including directors of Sales, Marketing, School Libraries, Publicity, and Business.

Alvina discusses book auctions and red flags.

Fortune Cookie: Generation Alpha Slang

Hazel helped Grace understand some of the slang terms from a song she was listening to. Here’s a little breakdown from The New York Times as well!

Gratefuls

Alvina is grateful for their neighborhood and having guests visit to enjoy it! Grace is grateful that her daughter and her friends are enjoying her latest novel.
