Children's book publishing’s secrets are revealed as we listen in on fascinating, unguarded, insider discussion from two uniquely qualified best friends: award-winning author/illustrator Grace Lin, and one of NYC’s top editors, Alvina Ling. Go behind the scenes of kid lit and catch a glimpse of the lives of the best-selling author and editor, and the relationship between them.

Episode #301: Personal Organization!

Episode #301: Personal Organization!

Grace and Alvina talk about their personal organization techniques, including what kind of tools they use and how they coordinate with their family.

For the Fortune Cookie segment they share some book recommendations. Grace recommends Stan Yan's upcoming book The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang, and Alvina recommends TJ Klune's Somewhere Beyond the Sea. They end as always with what they're grateful for.

Live Podcast Recording!

Saturday June 14th at the Carle Museum! This live recording will take place during the opening of the new Grace Lin exhibit from 1pm-2pm! (There is a members opening on June 13th.) The book friends are open to topic suggestions!

How have you been?

Grace has been on her book tour but it taking a break at home! She just returned from the Gaithersburg Book Festival. The Gate, The Girl, and The Dragon hit #2 on the NYT Bestseller List! Alvina is getting ready for her trip to Turks and Caicos!

Personal Organization

The book friends talk about digital wall calendars and how they organize their personal lives. Alvina references this New York Times article: “Can a $700 Calendar Save Your Marriage?” Grace use’s a Google calendar that is color coated. Alvina uses Outlook. In some ways, communication with your partner is lost when you’re just entering things into the calendars to see. What are some other tools that you use for your personal organization? Alvina uses an app called Dew and she puts things on her calendar that she needs to be reminded of. The fancy calendar is not going to take away any resentment if there is already resentment present. It will help an already healthy partnership. Some people love checking things off lists and also enjoy seeing NOTHING on their calendars to appreciate unplanned days.
