Episode #35- Listener Question: "What do we do about Amazon.com?"

Episode #35- Listener Question: "What do we do about Amazon.com?"

The book friends are back to chat about the hot topic of online shopping and what to do about the big Amazon.com! Plus, they reflect back on their special event; co-hosting the Carle Honors together in NYC and awarding four fabulous honorees.

Grace starts this week’s episode off by re-capping what a wonderful and glamorous week she had in New York City visiting with Alvina. It was fun for both of them to kind-of be roommates again just like old times for a week! They also loved having a reason to dress up in sparkles of course, because who wouldn’t!?

While in the Big Apple, Grace also got to tape an episode of Kidlit TV’s “The Big Picture LIVE!” along with Andrea Davis Pinkney! Check it out!:

Both Alvina and Grace had a really fun dinner out in NY with Charles Bridge Publishing including Yolanda Scott and Harold Underdown who were the original editors of The Ugly Vegetables. (This book just turned 20 this year!)

Yolanda brought Grace a little cup and saucer because the 20th year anniversary gift is China! In the saucers was 20 different reviews from 20 years of the book!

A listener came through with a question on the website. He had listened to the #OWNVOICES episode and got thinking about Amazon. “What do you think we should do about it?” he asks. Grace and Alvina share their thoughts and personal experiences with the e-commerce giant. Grace has mixed feelings about it because she loves the ease and convenience but also fears the power it has over consumers. Alvina once tried to boycott all online shopping for a year and found it to be quite challenging! However, she still tries to save the brick and mortar stores in her community by shopping locally as much as she can.

As usual, the BFF’s end with expressing what they’re grateful for. Alvina is so grateful that she now lives in a home big enough to host friends for a week and mostly she is so thankful for these new and old friendships. Grace is thankful that the Carle Honors presentation went so well and she feels so grateful that they were invited to host that special event. Take a look at this video incase you missed them!
