Episode #6: Work-Life Balance

Episode #6: Work-Life Balance

Today’s episode is about the ongoing challenge faced by so many…trying to achieve a healthy work/life balance. The book friends share their struggles with trying to balance out their work, family, and social aspects of life.

First, they catch up on each other’s lives a bit. Grace has been really stressed trying to finish her novel that she has been working on! It’s especially difficult to find balance as all her attention and focus is on writing the novel. She has booked a week for herself at the Highlights Foundation Retreat Center so that she can write and not be distracted by her family. She finds it hard to do anything else when she is trying to finish a book.

Alvina has been working on editing the new book my Emily X.R. Pan: “The Astonishing Color of After”.

Alvina gets up early and runs in the morning. She feels best when she does this and it sets her up for a successful day. She tries to balance work with her social life as she doesn’t have family around to incorporate into the mix. She goes out every night of the week and has some regular scheduled social activities.

A trip down memory lane!

“Do you remember when you knew what you wanted to be when you were a kid?” Grace thought she wanted to be a nurse when was little! Alvina wanted to be a veterinarian. Grace won a writing contest at a young age and just KNEW she wanted to earn money making books. It wasn’t until later in life when Alvina decided to go into editing.

As usual, they end this episode with saying what they are grateful for. Alvina is so grateful for her runs in Prospect Park. She appreciates the beauty of the morning light and that time she has to herself.

Grace shares a fun story about her being grateful for the internet and people helping her out with her quest to find a card catalog card! She wanted to know if anyone could put their hands on one for her book, “The Ugly Vegetables” that turns 20 this year. She received one! Now she is on the hunt for the sign-out card in the book if anyone knows how to get one.
