Episode #248: Editing and Revision!

Episode #248: Editing and Revision!

Grace and Alvina continue their "publishing curriculum" series and talk about the writing, editing, and revision process, with a focus on writing, editing, and revising novels. Find out how Grace feels the first time she receives an editorial letter from Alvina! They also finally share their ideas for patreon perks in the Fortune Cookies segment!

How have you been?

Alvina is at the Texas Library Association Conference! There is the ‘Running the Librarians!” Ernest Cline spoke on a panel who wrote Bridge to Bat City.

Elvira K. Gonzales was there promoting her book, Hurdles in the Dark: My Story of Survival, Resilience, and Triumph. This Book Won’t Burn by Samira Ahmed! Samira was there and talked about book banning.

Grace realizes how much harder it is to travel these days as she gets older. They recently went to visit Montreal where Alex is from! For We Need to Diverse Books, Grace is still doing a painting a month!

Editing and Revising

Grace and Alvina talk about the writing process. Each book is very different but Grace talks about starting with the research process and what the writing timeline looks like. Alvina talks about what happens after she is given a manuscript. Grace asks, “What are the biggest pitfalls that authors fall into?” Alvina talks about world building, believability issues, and character development. One of the hardest editorial letters she ever had to write was for Wendy Mass author of The Candymakers. The book wasn’t that great but a structural change made it work!

“Book friends are the best friends” Patreon sticker!

Coming soon! The book friends also talked about a sticker with Grace’s notebook design on it.

Another idea, was having a summer HAPPY HOUR!

Gratefuls

Alvina is grateful for teachers and librarians! Grace is grateful to be back home and that the flowers are blooming in her garden!
