Alvina reviews the Barbie movie and enjoys a nice weekend not editing. Can publishing be a 9-5 job she wonders. Grace is getting ready for the Chinese Menu book tour!
Book Promotion
Grace shares her thoughts and feelings about promoting books and all of the focus that you have to do on yourself. There are negative voices and self doubts in her head about promoting herself. What is the very first thing you tried to do to promote your books? Hear about that time that Grace ordered 500 fortune cookies for her Fortune Cookie Fortunes book!
In terms of self-promotion for Chinese Menu she is doing everything and seeing what sticks! Here’s some of her promotional fun for the upcoming book out on September 12th!

Debbi Michiko Florence and Grace are kicking off their (self-titled) Very Asian Book Trip this fall! They will meet and greet to celebrate the launch of their books: Chinese Menu and Jasmine Toguchi Great Gardener by Debbi.
Grace also hired an outside cookbook publicist and is hopefully going to book some podcast interviews etc..
There is a fun interactive presentation such as a reader’s theater for kids.

Alvina asks, “What do you think is the most effective thing you’ve ever done for promoting a book?” School visits! Grace reflects on the history of her book promotion and how it is different today. Her suggestion is to come up with a very memorable school presentation. It would be helpful getting teachers in front of authors and librarians.
