Episode #236: The Pareto Principle with Jane Kuo

Episode #236: The Pareto Principle with Jane Kuo

Welcome back to another episode of Book Friends Forever! Grace and Alvina welcome special guest, author Jane Kuo and they discuss the Pareto Principle and how it might relate to publishing and productivity.

Jane Kuo won this guest spot on our podcast by bidding on the We Need Diverse Books auction! Thank you for supporting We Need Diverse Books. Jane is a Chinese and Taiwanese American, a Californian, a wife, mother, an author, and a writer. She wrote In the Beautiful Country, and Land of Broken Promises, both illustrated by Julia Kuo. These are fiction books but heavily based on her own life.

How have you been?

Grace has been kind of down lately feeling hopeful for a fresh start at Lunar New Year. The We Need Diverse Books auction starts tomorrow for her first painting. Every month, Grace will make a painting inspired by a fortune cookie fortune. Hopefully the auction goes well! Alvina is getting ready to go to Kindling Words in Providence, RI. Hachette Book Group has changes its mission statement. Jane just returned from a trip to Mexico City with her husband to celebrate turning 50 plus their 25th wedding anniversary!

Pareto Principle (The 80/20 Rule)

Jane talks about how she has applied this principle in her life to help with productivity. It is not a power law and does not apply to everything. You can read more about the Pareto Principle here! These can also find this rule being discussed on two podcasts: Tiny Leaps, Big Changes podcast, episode #11 and Optimal Living Daily, 1467: Living Without Limits by Brian Tracy on How To Achieve Your Potential & Pursue Big Dreams.

Grace also talks about her relationship with this principle and how it applies to work and her goals for the year. Alvina discuses some of the problems with using this law in the world of publishing.
