Episode #241: Moving! with Libby Koponen

Episode #241: Moving! with Libby Koponen

While Grace is on sabbatical, Alvina talked with their friend, author Libby Koponen about moving--how many times they've moved (Libby has moved over 40 times!), their favorite places they've lived, what they've learned, and tips and tricks for moving.

Libby met Alvina when she edited her first and only published novel, Blow Out the Moon. Libby has a picture book coming out in August called, Is that the Bus?

How have you been?

Libby has been swimming in the ocean all year round and is about to finish an adult novel! During the pandemic, Libby joined a swimming group where she lives in Stonington, CT. Alvina is back to work and back to meetings! Libby and Alvina enjoyed Ethiopian food together.

Moving!

Libby shares her thoughts on moving. Having now lived in Stonington for 14 years, it is the longest she has ever lived anywhere. Scotland is the most beautiful place she’s ever lived. The book friends discuss why they moved each time and how moving can be a reset. They discuss the unknowns, taking leaps, and the pros and cons about moving so many times.

Fortune Cookie Segment: What we have been reading!

Libby visited the The Fountain Pen Hospital and then went to the Mysterious Book Shop while in NYC. Since she loves Margery Allingham mysteries, someone at the book shop recommended Kate Atkinson mysteries.

Alvina has been reading Think Again by Adam Grant and the YA Graphic novel, Lunar New Year Love Story by Gene Yan and LeUyen Pham. The first book she read this year was The Practice of Groundedness by Brad Stulberg. Alvina is considering reading an older book again. She’s thinking of these three: Charlotte’s Web, Jack and Jill, or Emily of New Moon.

Gratefuls

Alvina is grateful for Ethiopian food that she has had recently in NYC and in Atlanta. Libby is grateful for her friends, her swimming group, and that so many friends have commented on her adult novel that she’s happy to be almost done with.
