Grace and Alvina talk about two different topics--they debate the term "well-read" and whether they consider themselves to be well-read or if they even aspire to be so. They also discuss the gender disparity in children's books featuring animal protagonists.
And then, Alvina tells Grace about the Book BEAR CAME ALONG by Richard T. Morris and illustrated by LeUyen Pham. They end as always with what they're grateful for.
How have you been?
Alvina was in Georgia and then visited Vermont! Grace has been working on her paintings. She traveled to Jeanne Birdsall’s book launch at Unlikely Story in Plainville, Ma for her new book, Library of Unruly Treasures!
The Kennedy Center was going to work with Grace on making her book Chinese Menu into a play but it was cancelled. Grace is excited to go to Boothbay, Maine with her family to see the trolls!
The concept of being well-read
Alvina got this discussion idea from this Book Riot podcast episode. The definition of well-read is: “Well-informed or deeply versed in reading.”
Animal characters and their genders
Bear Came Along by Richard Morris by Lueyen Pham. A Caldecott Winner!
Gratefuls
Alvina is grateful for beautiful locations and novel experiences like jumping off of rocks and tubing! Grace is grateful that she has this time that is fairly peaceful.
