Episode #250: Copyediting with Christine Ma!

Grace and Alvina continue their "publishing curriculum" series and welcome special guest Christine Ma, to talk about the copyediting and proofreading process. For the Fortune Cookie segment, they talk about planning the perfect birthday and/or vacation!

How have you been?

Alvina has been doing school visits and ran into an old high school classmate, who was the principal of the school! Grace had an event at The Author’s Note, owned by author Julie Berry. Julie is the author of Lovely War and The Night Frolic. She also wrote a trilogy that came out during the pandemic: Wishes and Wellingtons, Crime and Carpetbags, and Burglars and Bluestockings.

Alex and Grace went to visit Alvina! They went out for Korean food and to Varietopia with Paul F. Tompkins at the Bell House! Alvina also ran a half-marathon in Brooklyn!

Christine has been taking her five-year-old daughter to various classes like swim, cheer, and dance.

Copyediting

The Book Friends talk about how Christina became a production editor. One of her first jobs was at Weekly Reader! Christina talks about serial commas, ableist language, gendered language, Conscious Style Guide, proof, and freelancing vs in-house.
