Episode #162: Aftermaths!

Episode #162: Aftermaths!

Grace and Alvina discuss the aftermath of ALA Annual, and how they feel in general after an anticipated event is over.

It was a very busy few weeks for the Book Friends as they prepared for ALA and participated in all of the big social events. Alvina then flew to her big family reunion in Oregon.

Grace is now recovering and reflecting back on the memorable event. She is trying to prepare another speech for an upcoming keynote speaker event but she’s feeling a bit depleted in the speech writing department! She may just rely on her TEDx talk that she typically uses.

AFTERMATHS!

Here are some of the questions about aftermaths that Grace and Alvina answer and discuss:

How did the ALA go overall? How was Grace’s speech!? How do we feel when highly anticipated events are now over? What about Covid at these events? How was the interview with John Cho!?

The Book Friends talk about the “aftermath feels” when something big that you have been anticipating for so long comes to a screeching halt. What are the feelings that come up? What do you do when its all over but there’s nothing really drastically life-changing that comes from it?

Alvin talks about the aftermath of her family reunion event. They are in need of some calm after a busy time with a lot of people. She talks about Stephen’s experience with this as he needs more breaks from time to time to re-charge. As a 100% extrovert, Alvina could roll with her family’s program and doesn’t need time to herself. Plus, she knows her family and how they operate.

Fortune Cookie Segment

Grace and Alvina share some of their favorite family memories! From Year of the Dog to discovering connections through family storytelling today.

Gratefuls

Alvina is grateful for family and her grandmother for setting up a fund so that these reunions can happen! Grace is grateful for the banquet of course but also the Eric Carle Museum reported that they have sold over 300 of the Horn Book posters! She can now write a generous donation check to everylibrary.org. Please purchase one today so we can continue to help support libraries fight book banning!
