Grace and Alvina welcome special guests Vivienne Chang and Eugenia Yoh, creators of their debut picture book THIS IS NOT MY HOME to talk about the meaning of home.

 

Vivienne and Eugenia talk about how they met in their freshman year dorm at a “Hot pot” night.

“How have you been?”

Grace has been great as she just returned from a successful book tour with Kate Messner! They were promoting their new book, Once Upon a Book! She’s a huge fan of being on tour with another person! Eugenia also came back from a successful book tour with Vivienne. Vivienne has been excited about the tour and all the events. Alvina also came back from seeing Grace on tour and had wonderful things to say. Kindling Words was also very successful. Last year, everyone was a little shell shocked but this time she made more connections.The HarperCollins strike update was discussed and it will be talked about more in the next episode.

This is Not My Home

One of Grace’s mission statements in life is to give her readers a sense of home. Her definition of home is a place where people feel connected and loved.

What is your definition of “home”? Eugenia talks about what the book, This is Not My Home and how it came to be. Vivienna describes her definition of home being some place where she feels accepted and comfortable. It is a feeling. “Home is where the heart is”.

Where do you both consider your home currently? -Alvina

“The feeling of home is where you are the most happy and content.”-Vivienne

“Home is a place that feels very cozy” -Eugenia

The book friends talk about where they felt the farthest from “home” and how locations feel strange and familiar.
