Episode #324: Asian Parents and Gratitude Chains!

Listen to Episode #324

Grace and Alvina talk about two topics this week. The first, inspired by a post by actor Ming Na Wen, they talk about different types of Asian parents and what some of the stereotypes and cultural differences are. Then, they talk about gratitude chains, where you start with the thing you're grateful for, and then work your way back to trace all the things that had to happen for that thing to exist.

For the Fortune Cookie segment, they talk about a garlic aioli-scented vampire book! And they end as always with what they're grateful for.

Gratefuls

Grace is getting a little nervous about the China trip that is happening in 2026. The tours are very expensive. Listeners….if anybody knows any tour guides in the Shanghai area to do something a little more off the beaten path, please let Grace know! Grace has also made a pronunciation guide for The Girl, The Gate, and The Dragon.

Alvina just got back from voting for mayor of NYC! Little Brown had their annual Halloween party where everyone dresses up as characters from a book. Alvina was dressed up as the main character from The Invisible Parade by Leigh Bardugo and illustrated by John Picacio!

Asian Parents

Grace and Alvina discuss their parents and their stereotypical Asian parents.

The Primal of Blood and Bone by Jennifer L Armentrout. The book used Garlic infused ink to print 1,000 copies of this book! Smells like garlic!

Gratefuls

Grace is so grateful for her husband being such a wonderful partner. She is grateful for him helping her with IKEA and supporting her during the fingerprinting saga. Alvina is grateful for that she can VOTE and vote early at The Brooklyn Museum.
