Episode #323: Does Publishing Have a Gambling Problem?

Listen to Episode #323

Grace and Alvina discuss a recent article about the challenges regarding the business model of book publishing, and how publishers tend to gamble big on debut novels. They discuss sales track and how that affects how publishers view you, and the ups and downs of publishing in general. For the Fortune Cookie segment they talk about what their favorite type of landscape is. And they end as always with what they're grateful for.

How have you been?

Grace’s assistant is retiring and she’s very anxious about traveling to China next year. It may be time to hire an intern! Alvina has been traveling to Colorado for SCBWI conference.

Fortune Cookie Segment: Favorite Terrain

Stephen LOVES the desert. Alvina doesn’t have a favorite but she does love the beach over mountains. Grace loves it all but she’s not comfortable in those wide open spaces. She feels better in the woods and bike paths with trees. Alvina is a fan of the green East Coast. What is your least favorite terrain?

Tell Me About…

Grace talks about her new Ling & Ting’s Lunar New Year book! You can pre-order here from The Eric Carle Museum shop!

Gratefuls

Grace is so grateful for beautiful New England and honey crips apple picking! The Phantom Tollbooth is a book that her daughter Hazel is enjoying and they can read together at night again.

Alvina is grateful for the SCBWI community and all the beautiful scenery she’s been able to enjoy.
