Episode #267: Trade Marketing with Bill Grace!
Grace and Alvina continue their "publishing curriculum" series and welcome special guest Bill Grace, Senior Marketing Manager at LBYR. They discuss everything from how he got his start in publishing, what trade marketing actually means, if publishers can "make" a bestseller, and how marketing has changed over the years. Plus, he gives some advice to authors about social media and working with your publisher on marketing. For the Fortune Cookie segment, they talk about what they've been reading lately.
How have you been?
Grace’s uncle passed away so she spent time with her family in New Jersey and also went apple picking with Hazel. Grace launched her “Street Team” application to help promote her new novel, The Gate the Girl and the Dragon. Alvina took advantage of her last “half-day Friday” of the summer! Stephen and Alvina walked through Central Park and had dinner at Din Tai Fung! They stopped at one of the free live concerts in Times Square. The band was “Rebel Kicks” from Staten Island. Ben was in New Jersey with his boyfriend visiting his parents. They were doing a house clean-out so he got to see some of the artifacts from his childhood!

Bill talks about his path and intro into a publishing career. His career started at Buttonwood Books and Toys in Cohasset, MA. The book friends discuss what trade marketing, consumer marketing, and all of the other types of book advertisement. Can publisher’s make a best-seller?
